The house

The assignment1 house design

The assignment 1 request we design a house use the three different Primitives With the floor size and volume size limt.

1. the draft of how to combine the three primitive I choose .At first I chose the cylinder box and sphere, but the sphere in the house design will be waste a lot space so I change the sphere to the wedage.
The first vison of my design house, the wedage design for the living space ,kitchen space and the car garage in frist level.the cylinder to be the contnect spcae for the first and second level, the box will be second level for master room children room and guest room or study room。
At first , I want design the whole glass facade in the house ,make it look more modern
The hose size compare with the people model.the first level roof able to be the bolcony space for the second level,it also is the semi open space for the house hold.
the cylinder is not only contnect space for the level 1 nad level 2 , but also is a store space or wine cell for the house hold.
the line is the guide line for the differnt space of the house.

Paper Folading ex2

The first one work
from the wings structure  of the Milwaukee Art Museum , most iconic structure in the this building.
just use the one paper therefore the model is very unsubstantial.

the second work
the second work made from the cut off paper, though is more strong than the first one but lose some detail of the Art Museum .

the final work ( no limtation of material used)
the details is more than the  last two work but I think should use more time to developed.

The original building the wings of  Art Museum.

the first and second paper work is made of the one paper, Actually the limitations make me thought about use the simple way to express the original form as I can. but in the third paper work, no limitations . but the final work is not better than the final work. I believe is absolutly is the time problem

Comparative sketching

Comparative sketching EX1

 My process
step 1 the draft of site plan

In the group 2, we just got few picture of the building and some text description, so my frist step is roughly find the which building in which location.

step 2 accurate site plan(contrast last site plan)
According to the photo to find buildings location and from of the each building.

 step 4 the section
according to site plan and photos to make a section of this building.

step 5 from the site plan and section to make the roughly 3d view of building.

Personal Comment:
In the group 2 we just got a few facades photos and some text description about this building. In the process ,find the location of the building and determine the specific shape of building are the easier work in the process.Though the text the description is not very clear suggestions for find the building location but the photo can help we find the more precise lacation. There are two thing is very hard in the sketching that is the detail of the architecture and internal space of the architecture. For the detail aspect , because we have only limited information therefore some place just through guess or reasoning. for example the connection between B C D building. Most detail still different
between the real building plan or section.

In this exercise just through the site plan section or description of the building
to find the what exactly of the building is really hard.Thoughjust only these
2D plan we still able to make the scenes of the building,but at same time it cost
more time to understand what is the designer want to expression. In other words the
3D view can help the people more easy to understand the design purpose.at same
time reduce cost and improve efficiency.

Santiago Calatrava the Research Exercise 1: Design Influence

 Santiago Calatrava  Milwaukee Art Museum
Front of the Milwaukee Art Museum

Adjustable wings in the Milwaukee Art Museum , this also the famous characteristic in the Milwaukee Art museum.
 when the wing was closed
when the wings open , the picture also show the main function of the wings the adjust the natural light in enter the building.

Model of Milwaukee Art Museum , except the wing of the museum also we can clearly see the the iconic Calatrava bridge in the front of the Museum .

Internal space of the building , the main hall of the Milwaukee Art Museum in this picture the wings is opening.
This picture shown when the wings are closed. contrast the last picture the main hall is more dark than the lsat picture.

I choose the Santiago Calatrava because the Calatrava not only a famous architect but also he is famous sculptor ans structural engineer. The Calatrava's work different between the other architect is the his engineer’s identity. this make the Calatrava's design more close the "from follow the function". For me the  Milwaukee Art Museum most interesting part is the wing structure. when the architect face to the building lighting issues, the most of architects use the blank space or glass curtain but the Calatrava use the engineer way to slove this problem.Calatrave design use the mechanical structural make the roof of Milwaukee Art Museum not just the a roof ,also make this roof to be a light modulator. In addition the openable structure make this building have different forms. The 3rd,4th and 5th photo show the wing open or closed status . By contrast most architecture is solidified and sculpture, because the architect always use the form to express dynamic feeling in the building , but to be the engineer the Calatrava can use the mechanical way to design the building I believe this is why the Calatrava's work and  Milwaukee Art Museum different other architecture.
